50m Denwood Competitions 2024

Saddle up, boys - it's shootin' time!

13/7/24.  A week of highs and one particular low.

Three PCP shooters (Bri, Erni and Jim) each got a 10.

Norrie continued the 10 theme over in the Springer comp with (almost) everyone else putting up good scores - Jim got an excellent nine as did Graham, Malcolm completely forgot himself and shot an eight which is consistent with his last one, Graham, shooting two rounds to catch up with everyone, got another eight and Nick jumped in with a six.

Last and certainly least was Bri.  After much threatening to demonstrate how useless he is with a Springer, he made good on that and shot a truly pitiful two - the lowest score (yet) seen in a 50m comp - and is now considering using his HW77 as a fencepost.

13/7/24.  Adverse weather conditions (a typical Aberdeen summer) contributed to an eight from Norrie.  His search for pellets that work well in subsea conditions goes on.

6/7/24.  A shakeup in the PCP comp - Jim overtakes Erni for the top spot and Dave moves up to 3rd place.

Malcolm bounced back with a Springy eight, Jim got a very impressive nine while Norrie and his TX continue to dominate.

29/6/24.  Malcolm demonstrated how difficult it is to shoot a Springer well - a rather disappointing four for him this week but he'll doubtless bounce back from that.

Over on the much easier to shoot PCP side of things, Jim got his second 10, Erni maintains his lead with a nine and Dave did indeed build on his previous score with another nine which lifts him off the foot of the table.

22/6/24.  Some interesting scoring this week.  Erni and Norrie are at the halfway mark and it seems that they can outshoot the PCP guys with Springers.  Obviously, no-one has told them it's meant to be the other way round.

There's four points difference between the two of them at the top of the Springer table which seems like a lot but GARC competitions can turn on a sixpence so let's not call it just yet.

Jim entered the fray with a seven.  Starting late means he's at the bottom of the table but that'll only be until Bri finally picks up a Springer and embarrasses himself.

Another late entry is Dave.  Having a go with his PCP, he's got something to build on with a six.

Allan continues with a seven, Jim an eight and Seldom Seen Bri got a nine.

16/6/24.  Pressganged by Erni, Allan made his PCP comp debut with a rather nice nine.

Will he stick around and improve on that?  Hope so - the more, the merrier.

Erni himself racked up a nine while over in Springville Malcolm scored a six.

8/6/24.  A couple of Springer score updates this week.  Erni got an eight to close the gap with Norrie and Malcolm shows an upward trajectory with seven.

2/6/24.  Norrie continues to dominate the Springer comp both with high scores and participation - another nine for him this week.

Over in the PCP village, both Erni and Jim had bad air days.  With six apiece, they were well off their usual pace

26/5/24.  A nine apiece from Erni and Norrie in the Springer comp this week with Norrie also hitting the halfway mark.

18/5/24.  Just two entries this week - Erni got a nine while Bill shot a six.

Definite pattern emerging there.

4/5/24.  Interesting scores this week.  Jim got off to a good start on the 50m range with nine very solid hits only to miss by a hair on the furthest target.

Bri surprised everyone by actually taking part but the real shocker was Norrie getting a mere seven.

There was no explanation for this abrupt dip but I suspect match rigging by the bookies and may have to launch an enquiry.

27/4/24.  Some in, one out.  The fine fellows that are Bill, Jim and Malcolm shot their first rounds with the standout being Jim and his 10/10 although Erni's nine denied him the top spot.

Dedicated springer man Norrie proves he's in it to win it - another ten from him.  Hope he got his round of applause this time.

It's not all sweetness and light though as Steve L had a setback due to an unfamiliarity with the rules and accounting errors.  Although he's been right on the money shooting-wise, his two scores so far have been quietly swept under the carpet.

He's more than welcome to make up the two rounds he'd previously shot in a single session if he likes though and, with his BenchRest and HFT experience, I suspect he'll be a serious contender.

20/4/24.  The 2nd round Springer scores are in for Erni and Norrie and they're good - a consistent eight for Erni while Norrie shot the season's first ten.

Keep up the good work guys.

PCP-wise, Steve L and his Daystate Pulsar joined in the fun for the first time.  More of a Waulkmill Warrior than a Denwood Denizen, his seven was a good start and we hope to see him at Denwood more often.

13/4/24.  Norrie enters the fray with a very nice nine and overtakes Erni for the lead.  Early days but I suspect this is going to be closely fought.

6/4/24.  As it so often happens, Life got in the way of shooting for Norrie and Erni was champing at the bit to get going so the Springer comp is now underway with a very respectable 8.

Last year's PCP champion Erni has started the PCP comp with a robust 9 and I have it on good authority that Norrie will get the Springer side of things moving on Wednesday.

Same rules as last year - any rifle, calibre and sight*, shoot sitting and rested with 10 shots per round and 10 rounds over the course of the year.  Full rules are in the sidebar on the left.

It's free to enter and there'll be prizes at the end.

Join in and have a go - what's the worst that could happen?
