50m Comps 2025

Riflemen, fire!

4/10/25.  The Curse of The Wandering Zero struck again as Norrie bows out with a crushing five and three.

Jim's zero stayed firmly rooted though - two 10s and an eight put him within easy distance of the top spot with one round to go.

27/9/25.  Some evenings, things just don't go right and last Wednesday was one of them.

Both Bri and Norrie put some rounds in and immediately wished they hadn't.  A PCP based five and six in Bri's case, every target was missed at least once with no obvious reason why other than, perhaps, a lack of practice.

Norrie had a similar experience over in Springland.

He started off with an unbelievable three which he followed with a still disappointing five and ended with a note of redemption on a more credible eight.

Underwhelming scores which have effectively removed both of them from the running.

20/9/25.  It's been a bit quiet in the Springer comp recently.  Erni's got all his rounds in and is sitting at the top of the table, Norrie's had a season of mechanical trials and tribulations, Nick R hasn't shot in a while and the least said about Bri, the better.

Not much actually going on.

Until now.

Jim turned up on Wednesday and rattled off four, rather spiffing, rounds - three 10's and a nine in quick succession!

That really changes the game and must surely be a concern to both Erni and Norrie.

30/8/25.  With the "one round per week" rule lifted, Bri thought he'd do some catching up in the PCP comp.

He started off well with a nine but the following round turned into a car crash with an inexplicable six which included missing the 25m spinners not once but twice.

Lowest score so far.

He wisely decided to quit while he was behind.

No such problems for Jim though as he finished his 2025 PCP campaign on a high with two tens and an eight.

23/8/25.  Jim proves that he's not a quitter by rattling in a Daystate based nine this week.

And there's still plenty of time to enter this lighthearted comp as we'll lift the one round per week rule meaning that, if you're on form and having one of those evenings where you can't miss, you can shoot as many rounds as you like in one sitting.

It's no different from the normal rested style of shooting that you probably already do on the 50m range so, whaddahell, join in the craic and give it a bash - you might like it!

8/8/25.  Erni can now sit back, put his feet up with a martini and watch the others sweat to catch him as he and his trusty '97 put in a strong and sturdy nine for his final Springer round of 2025.

His total of 87 is only one under his PCP score proving him to be a versatile shot.

Jim put in a seven with his Daystate this week.  An awkward figure as it means there's no longer enough points on the table for him to dethrone Erni.

It's a solid bet that he'll continue to shoot for and get a podium place though.

24/7/25.  It was eights all round for Erni and Jim in both comps this week.

Erni becomes the first to get all his PCP rounds in which sets the benchmark for others.  There's enough points left for anyone to overtake him but they better'd be at the top of their game to do that.

18/7/25.  Single entries in the PCP and Springer comps this week.

Erni, for some unfathomable reason, decided to use an FX Dreamslime.  This, as you'd expect, resulted in a less than perfect score but a nine's PDG in anyone's book.

Norrie had a wee hiccup with the longest shots as the two remotest spinners remained resolutely unspinny in places.  Still, eight of the sods got a solid whacking so not too bad.

.

12/7/25.  Norrie continues to make up for lost time in the Springer comp with a stonking 10.  He's still four rounds behind Top of the Table Erni but - and here's the interesting bit - their averages are exactly the same at 8.75 each.

Still a lot of shooting to go but this just went from a one horse race to what will probably be another photo finish.

3/7/25.  A couple of scores to add to the Springer table this week.  Reigning champion Norrie has two entries, one being from the previous week which got lost in the ether and is only being recovered now.

Mind you, he probably wouldn't mind if it was lost altogether as his six was so outlandishly below par that it looked like a typo.

A Steward's Enquiry was held and the cause was found to be a drifted zero in an otherwise previously stable rifle/scope setup.  With turrets tweaked, he was suitably back on track with a nine.

So, a lesson to us all there - always check your zero!

No such issues for Erni though as a 10 with his '77 proves.

He also rattled in a sturdy, HW100 based, nine in PCPville which is already making 2025 look like his year.

28/6/25.  With his newly repaired Daystate back on the road, Jim ditched his FX and immediately returned to his normal form with a 10.

What does that tell us?

Erni (HW100) had a little dip with an eight but let's not forget that's he's never dropped below an eight this year and it's still a top end score.

He also shot an HW77 facilitated eight over in Springerville, his score there being only two points off that of his PCP total.

Mr Consistent or what?

21/6/25.  There was a good turnout on the 50m range last Wednesday.

However, participation was inversely proportional to attendance with only one entrant this week.

That being Bri with an eight from his AA 400.

7/6/25.  Our two keenest entrants picked up their PCPs and got another round in this week with Erni racking up another nine with his FX Creamlime while the Jim/FX DRS (Doesn't Reliably Score?) combo could only muster a below par (for him) seven.

Your Feng Shui is definitely off this season mate.

Springer-wise, Erni pressed the ever-dependable HW97 into service for yet another nine which surely must be preloading the tension for our other Springer shooters.

31/5/25.  Another entry this week as Bri sent some lead downrange in the PCP comp.

Eight distinct thwacks were heard from the spinners but two remained silent.

The suspicion is that Erni turned the volume control down on them.

24/5/25.  This week, it was Erni and Jim sending competitive pellets downrange.  An HW97 based eight for Mr S while it was FX time over in Pfft Gun World with the aforementioned Erni keeping up a high standard with nine out his Dreamland/Dreamtime/Dreamteam.*

Jim, however, knocked in a seven with his DRS/PRS/MRS.**  Nowt wrong with a seven but it's a bit off his usual pace and dropping points early on can have a drastic effect at the end.

* I can't keep up with the silly names FX give to their guns.

** I really can't.

10/4/25.  Jim entered the fray this week with a solid nine in the Springer comp and an eight over on the PCP side.

Steadfast Erni continues his 2025 campaign with eyes on the prize - two nines keep him at the top of both tables.

26/4/25.  We have the first 10s of the season courtesy of stalwarts Erni and Norrie, which is perhaps no surprise.

That Erni got his with an FX is though.

Allan starts his PCP campaign with an HW110 based seven which is not to be sniffed at.

Over in Springland, Norrie made his season debut with the previously mentioned 10 and Erni lengthens his lead with an eight from his Weihrauch '97.

17/4/25.  Erni and Nick R are laying down a template for the Springer comp with a repeat of their previous scores.

A leaking HW100 meant Erni had to resort to his FX Dreamline for this week's PCP entry.  A point less than previously scored - does this mean the HW is the better gun?

5/4/25.  The first shots have been fired in our 2025  50m comps and there's no mucking about from Erni in both the PCP and Springer categories - a solid nine in each with his HW100 and 97.

Nick R is off to a good start too with a springy, HW77 based, eight.

Early days so there's plenty of time to enter and have a go.

It's time again to present yourself at the 50m range for our outdoor competiton.

Starting Wednesday 2/4/25, it'll follow the tried and true format of 10 rounds of 10 shots each.  Those who know, know but, if you're new to it and would like to take part (and you should) then have a read of the guide on the top of the sidebar.  Alternatively, have a word with main man Erni on the 50m range and he'll see you right.

Doubtless, the usual faces will be there and, now that Mike has got the competition bug, they may not get it all their way so it should be interesting.
